Manulife Empowers a Workforce for Good with its 2021 Act of Kindness Programme

SINGAPORE — This holiday season, Manulife is giving each member of its 37,000-strong global team, including over 700 employees in Singapore, the equivalent of $50 CAD in their local currency to create an act of kindness in their local communities. Titled the #ManulifeActofKindness programme, the initiative was first launched in 2020 to enable Manulife staff all over the world to pay good deeds forward and extend benevolence to their neighbours who need it most.

All members of its global team are encouraged to take the time to carry out a personal act of kindness that is most meaningful to them and share their stories of support on social media using the #ManulifeActofKindness hashtag. These stories will also be rechannelled to the official campaign website, manulife.com/actofkindness.

“A company is only as strong as its community and we at Manulife firmly believe that every person has a role to play in building up a resilient, well-resourced and altruistic society,” said Dr. Khoo Kah Siang, Chief Executive Officer of Manulife Singapore. “As many in our midst continue to navigate through the effects of the pandemic, we wanted to empower people to lend practical help to the ones around them, especially in this year-end season. Small gestures can create a big impact and we’re excited to see how the #ManulifeActofKindness programme can truly be an effective force for good.”

In Singapore, the organisation’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) council is stretching their commitment to the #ManulifeActofKindness programme with a fundraiser for the beneficiaries of Association for Persons with Special Needs (APSN) and Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA). The proceeds will go towards providing special education, vocational training and employment support services for APSN special needs trainees and supporting YWCA’s community programmes such as Sustenance for Families, Meals-on-Wheels, the Empowering Mums Project and the YWCA House that serves as a platform for young women to start anew and rebuild their lives for a better future.

Globally, Manulife has continuously partnered with and supported like-minded organisations that seek to help people live healthier and more financially secure lives. In 2020 alone, Manulife’s total direct corporate donations amounted to $21 million, with an additional $4.2 million in colleague donations contributed. These donations have also been amplified by deeds, with a total of 31,795 volunteer hours invested to meaningful causes across the globe in the same year.
